Planster is a writing and reading platform operated by Alexandra Zambrano ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Planster, why we collect it, and what rights you have over it. This policy applies to all users of Planster, whether you're reading, writing, or acting as a beta reader. 2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information: • Account information: your email address, a securely hashed password, your username, and display name. • Profile information: your bio, profile picture, and any privacy preferences you set (such as whether your library count or ratings are publicly visible). • Content you create: books, chapters, synopses, tags, cover images, Writer's Studio content (characters, locations, timelines, notes, boards), and any text you write on the platform. • Reading activity: which books you've saved to your library, your ratings, your reading progress, and your reading streak. • Beta reader communications: motivation messages when applying to be a beta reader, inline comments, and chapter reviews. These are always private between you and the book's author — no one else can see them. • Notifications: activity that generates in-app notifications for you (such as beta approvals or new chapters). • Technical information: your session cookie (to keep you signed in) and your language preference cookie.
3. How we use your information
We use your information to: • Provide and operate the core features of Planster, including your library, the writing tools, and the beta reader system. • Keep you signed in and secure your account. • Show you your reading streak, continue-reading suggestions, and book recommendations based on your library and ratings. • Send you a password reset email if you request one. • Notify you of relevant activity within the app (such as a beta request being approved). • Maintain the security and integrity of the platform. We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell your personal data to anyone.
4. Legal basis for processing (EU/EEA users)
If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, we process your personal data under the following legal bases, in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR): • Performance of a contract: to create your account and provide the features you sign up for. • Legitimate interests: to keep the platform secure, prevent abuse, and improve our features. • Consent: where you explicitly opt in, such as accepting this policy when you register. You can withdraw consent at any time by contacting us, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before you did so.
5. Cookies
Planster uses only strictly necessary cookies: • A session cookie, which keeps you signed in. • A language preference cookie, which remembers the language you've chosen. We do not use advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies. Because we only use strictly necessary cookies, we do not require a cookie consent banner under EU ePrivacy rules — but you're always free to clear your cookies from your browser settings, which will sign you out and reset your language preference.
6. Third-party service providers
We share limited data with the following service providers, who process it on our behalf and only for the purposes described below: • Cloudinary — hosts images you upload (book covers, character images, avatars, world-building images, board content). • Resend — sends transactional emails, specifically password reset emails, when you request one. • Supabase — hosts our PostgreSQL database, where your account and content data is stored. These providers are contractually bound to protect your data and may only use it to provide their service to us. We do not share your data with any other third party, and we never sell it.
7. What other users can see
Your public profile (display name, username, bio, avatar, and published books) is visible to anyone, including people who aren't signed in. You can choose in Settings whether your library count and your ratings/reviews are shown on your public profile. Beta reader comments and chapter reviews are always private — only you and the book's author can see them, never other beta readers or the public. Writer's Studio content (characters, locations, timelines, notes, and boards) is always private to the book's author.
8. Data retention
We retain your account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you'd like your account and associated data deleted, contact us at planster.alexzambrano.com and we will process your request within a reasonable timeframe, except where we're required to retain certain information for legal or security purposes.
9. Your rights
If you are located in the EU/EEA (or another jurisdiction with similar protections), you have the right to: • Access the personal data we hold about you. • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data. • Request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten"). • Request a copy of your data in a portable format. • Object to or restrict certain processing. • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. 10. International data transfers
Some of our service providers (such as Cloudinary and Resend) may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, to ensure your data continues to receive a level of protection consistent with EU law.
11. Children's privacy
Planster is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time as Planster evolves. If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
